A Brief History In Lingerie

Here at Apartment c not only do we like to provide you with beautiful lingerie we also like to brush up on our history and knowledge of underwear once in a while.
This week we have been learning about Henry Lesher who patented the first ever bra in 1859.
It's not to far off what we enjoy today although looks extremely uncomfortable, it was the first ever bra prototype, was made in New York in 1859 and was designed to give you symmetrical rotundity!!!
The bra even had shields to absorb perspiration and inflatable pads built in if one breast was bigger then the other, unfortunately it offered absolutely no support and was designed more to create an even appearance to the bust.It was also originally created to offer shape to the bust which a corset would usually provide, therefore marking the start of the end of the corset!!
Fortunately this inspired many brassier makers to bring us our amazing beautiful and supportive bra that we all know and adore today!!!!!

Have you got any interesting facts about the history of lingerie or have recently learnt anything about the origins of underwear or designers? If so feel free to drop us a tweet...class dismissed!!!!!
